Flatcoated Retriever Society South West Area Gundog Working Test – Report by Organiser Sara Thurgood
We had a busy and successful day on Sunday 6th March 2022 running the FCRS South West Area Working test at Southcott Farm, Winkleigh, Mid Devon by kind permission of land owners Mr and Mrs R Bland. Although there was a cold wind for most of the day, it stayed dry and there was a warm welcome for all.
The ground provided varying terrain for dogs to work, including woodland, banks and ditches, cover crops, open ground and water. The day included tests for NoviceDog/Novice Handler (ND/NH), Novice and Open.
Many thanks go to our judges Tim Woodgate-Jones, Sheila Neary, Jo Fergie and Steve Kimberley, for setting a good variety of tests to challenge all competitors.
ND/NH and Novice tests ran in the morning with two groups each and congratulations go to Katherine Wright (ND/NH) who took 1st and 2nd placings with Keveral Lolo and Keveral Lololui, respectively.
In the Novice test congratulations go to 1st place Lindsay Swan with Swantonwood Gold Leaf, 2ndplace Mo Sweet (Hoaroak Hill), 3rd place Steve Ashby (Mahinda Logon Han Solo At Tunnelwood) and 4th place Gavin Wakley (Keveral Inola), COM went to Charlotte Wear (Silkhanns Teazle Of Keveral).
The Open test ran after lunch with 1st and 2nd placings going to Steve Ashby with Tunnelwood Phantom and Thamespath Bracken At Tunnelwood respectively, 3rd place was Charlotte Wear (Keveral Hen Harrier), 4th Helen Ford (Percuil Dasher).
The day concluded with tea and cake before the final prize giving. Many thanks to our judges, competitors and the excellent team of helpers for making this a successful day.
