Mary Tanner (Tacumshin Affix)

The Flatcoated Retriever Society and its Officers and Committee are saddened to hear from Graham Lambert of the death of long time member Mary Tanner. Mary held the affix Tacumshin and bred just a few litters.
Mary was a stock person straight forward and honest, she had many funny tales to tell that kept you riveted.Mary will be missed by many of us,honoured to call her our family and friend.
A General Committee member for many years where she served as our Show Secretary from 1990 -2000,Mary was a valued member of the Judges and Show Sub Committee to the present date and judged Flatcoats at Championship level .
Never keeping many Flatcoats at a time, Mary’s best known Flatcoat was without a doubt her Ch Downstream Revisited to Tacumshin (Ch.Pajanbeck Prince of Thieves.JW ex Ch. Deep River Walk of Downstream), aka Molly who she was justifiably so very proud of.
Molly’s registered name was a tribute to Mary having had her first Flatcoated Retriever from Shirley and Peter Johnson, 50 years previously.
Molly won 12 CC’s,4 RCC’s and 2 Group 4’s, she gained her crown at the Flatcoated Retriever Society Championship show in 2005 under Brian Izzard , breed specialist and bitch CC at Crufts in 2007 under breed specialist Val Jones ,she was handled by Vicky Davis.
A tremendous achievement considering ‘Picking up’ at local shoots gave Mary and her Flatcoats their greatest pleasure, so she would never enter a show further north than Midland Counties or one that was in the shooting season.
Never one to complain, Mary would always say with a smile that whatever happened in the future, no one could ever take away from her what Molly had won.
Mary joins her much missed husband Terry and their many Flatcoats who are waiting for her.
Our sincere condolences to Mary’s son John and his family and all of her family and friends.
Sweet dreams Mary you are missed.
Funeral details will be posted as soon as they are known.
