14.09.25 – Are you and your dog interested in taking your Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate?
The KC WGC is not a competition, nor is it an assessment of the suitability of dogs for entry into the competitive field (such as working tests or field trials). The aim of the WGC is to provide credible proof that a handler and dog are a competent partnership and are ready for the shooting field. Your partnership will be assessed in the following areas, control, obedience, hunting and retrieving.
Friendly and supportive assessors will guide you through the day with plenty of advice and a wealth of knowledge. Nobody “fails” the assessment, although you and your dog may be assessed as “not yet ready”. Passes are awarded a KC Working Gundog Certificate and lanyard. The award of a KC WGC on dummies will be recorded against your dog’s record on the Kennel Club database and your certificate can either be sent in the post or collected in person at Crufts. For those of you who show your dogs there are Special Working classes at some championship shows, including breed specific shows, the URC, and of course Crufts, that may be entered by those dogs which hold a KCWGC.
The FCRS in conjunction with the Eastern Counties Golden Retriever Club has an assessment date arranged on 14/9/25 at Rickney’s Dog training Ground in Hertfordshire. We will start the day with an optional 2 hour training session to familiarise you with the scenarios that you will encounter in the assessment. The assessment will be held after lunch. Please see the schedules and entry form which can be downloaded below.
