Live Game Training Subsidy 2022

The General Committee have agreed that the subsidy available for members to claim towards the cost of live game training days should be increased from £40 to £50 per day this year. This can be claimed up to twice in one year by members towards any live game training on production of a receipt. Back to Basics training with Phil Bruton 23rd/24th July review

A relaxed and enjoyable two day Gundog Training was held with Phil Bruton on 23/24th July. This two day training event was aimed at Novice/Open dog ability. Both days started off in a lovely relaxed social way with tea and sausage sandwiches to allow Phil to brief everyone on the objectives of the day prior to the training starting. With a mixture of abilities the training was tailored to suit everyone’s needs, with clear advice and encouragement ensuring that all participants achieved their goal. Statement from The Flatcoated Retriever Society

We have recently been made aware that the financial probity of the General Committee has been brought into question on social media.  Two areas have been commented on the content of which is both misleading and inaccurate. The first subject raised is that in April 2019 the General Committee made a donation of £30,000 to the Animal Health Trust just before it went into liquidation. This is incorrect.  A donation of £9250 was made to the Animal Health Trust in April 2019 for the Histiocytic Sarcoma Research project, and this was jointly funded by the Brenda Phillips Memorial Health Fund, the Shirley Radburn legacy…

The Shirley Radburn National Working Tests for Novice and Open Dogs, Sunday 3rd July – Results

The Shirley Radburn National Working Tests for Novice and Open Dogs were held on Sunday 3rd July at Bagborough Park, West Bagborough, Nr Taunton by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Waygood. Our judges for the day were  Tim Woodgate-Jones, Jo Fergie and Graham Clelland. The weather was mostly sunny with some heavy and unexpected rain in the morning and a gusting wind in the afternoon. Update on Meeting of the 27th June 2022

The FCRS held a Zoom meeting with representatives from both the General Committee and the Field Trial sub on Monday 27th June 22. This was a positive and constructive meeting, where member’s concerns regarding the working Flatcoat were discussed, common ground was established and a way forward agreed. Back to Basics with Phil Bruton 25th/26th June review.

Last weekend (25/26 June) the FCRS put on Back to Basics with Phil Bruton . Everything was set up so the dogs of different stages of their training succeeded. The first day exercises were to get dogs to know the ground more and different areas so that they could be tested further the next day. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of laughs. All the dogs showed improvement on the second day. Phil explained how the exercises would be marked in an AV field trial and a working test and had us scoring each others attempts. Jane Calverley…

Mrs Helen Ford resigned from the position of Field Trial Secretary on 14th June and, although requested to re-consider her decision, has declined to do so.  The General Committee would like to thank her for her hard work and commitment over the past year. Breed Appreciation Day (BAD)/Breed specific Seminar – 30th October 2022

The Breed Appreciation Day (BAD)/Breed specific Seminar is open to all who wish to gain a better understanding of the Flatcoated Retriever. The BAD is a mandatory requirement for all judges wishing to progress from Level 1 to Level 2 on the Judges Competency Framework (JCF). The Kennel Club has stated that from 2020, all judges will need to be registered on at least JCF Level 1 in order to undertake any judging appointment. Results of the SGRS/FCRS joint working tests held at Parklands Ewshot on 12/6/22

We were blessed with lovely weather and as ever are grateful to the judges and helpers for giving up their time, to the landowner and to the SGRS for hosting.  NDNH had 13 entries, with 7 flatcoats.
