Dr David Brook

The Flatcoated Retriever Society are very sad to hear of the passing of Dr David Brook whose wife Anne was a former Secretary of the Society.
We asked Val and Den Orme good friends of them both to write some words for us,Den writes the following in his inimitable style.

Dr David Brook
It is with sadness that we heard about the passing of David. It has been a priveledge to know David and Anne Brook for many years. We first met whilst showing our dogs, with David always supporting Anne by the ringside. We became friends and after a bad experience staying at a pub in Kelso for the Border Union Ch. Show Anne and David introduced us to the guest house they stayed at in Crookham, not far from Kelso. This became our favourite place to stay for Border Union and gradually we both extended our stay to a week. We enjoyed some lovely meals there together with interesting conversation where we put the world to rights. Then spent our time together with all of our dogs exploring the beaches and sites of Northumberland. We have some lovely memories of that time with typical flatcoat friends
David was a brilliant mathematician and I believe he was in part responsible for the development of the Gyroscope, which he loved to talk about. There appeared to be little he didn’t know about and once spent an hour explaining to Val about formula one car tyres after she had made a passing comment about them.He loved his pre-dinner sherry and I always wound him up by getting it in a pint glass (not full !!)and trying to talk about football to which he had no interest in at all.
In the latter years they found driving to Kelso too much and so our annual breaks together ended.
David loved his golf and I think this helped him when Anne sadly became unwell and went into a home.He thought the world of his family and even though not well himself he managed to visit Anne regularly.
A good friend, who will be sadly missed . R.I.P.
